Chocolate Croissants
In one word... life changing. But seriously, I've tried these twice now and can say these are as good if not better than what you can get at your local bakery. It does require some additional planning in that you have you have to set out the chocolate croissants the night before to proof overnight (for 9 hours) but is extremely easy in the morning, simply brush an eggwash (whisk together one egg and a tablespoon of hot water) over the pastries in the morning and bake them off in the oven. They look and taste like the real deal you'd get in Paris. If you wanted to go a little further, melt and drizzle some dark chocolate over the cooled croissants.

whoever thought of this is a genius! because you bake them yourself, you get the fresh-baked bakery taste in the convenience of your own home. i skip the optional egg wash and they come out perfectly browned and flaky. i've even gotten two of my friends hooked on these croissants!

If only they'd make a plain variety, with no chocolate, for those of us who don't crave or appreciate the brown bean.

YUM! Better the STL Bre####!

SO easy, and SO good. The perfect breakfast when you want to splurge! They are also CHEAP - around $4 for 4 - not going to pay that at a bakery!

I was skeptical that these would come out really crispy from a home oven but they do. I agree with KJF, we need a plain version also.

These are so good. The only problem is I have twice forgotten to take them out the night before. Otherwise these are great and so much better than the package of croissants in the bread section at TJs.

These are easy and super addictive.
... Because I know that they *have* to serve these there!!

I've had the "real thing" in both Paris and Brussels, and these are every bit as good as those. Frankly, I think these are even better because I can get these still warm out of the oven any time I want them! For a dollar each, they are an incredible bargain. Flaky, buttery, chocolatey love on a baking sheet... I hope the batch I just baked lasts until hubby gets home!

These are my favorite Trader Joe's item! They are so fantastic and you can have them warm from the oven instead of sitting out at the bakery for too long! I take one out to proof before I go to sleep, and then put it in the oven when I wake up. I could probably eat the whole box in one sitting, good thing they take so much time to proof so that I limit myself with only having one available for me to devour.
I would have never discovered these wonderful little gems if it wasn't for this post. I purchased a box about 2 months ago, and I "surprised" my family one morning with these. I now have a box in my freezer at all times. I too have elimated the egg wash step and we have been more than pleased with the final result.

Wow...these are WAY TOO DELICIOUS! First of all, they are so worth the wait (overnight). When taken from the oven they are lying in pools, literally POOLS, of butter. Eaten warm from the oven is close to achieving Nirvana in your kitchen. Yes, I do realize that they are like a heart attack in your hand. Yes, I know I'm packing an artery when I eat them. But they are sooooooooo good. aaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!

These are a million times better than ones you'd get at a bakery but you get them FRESH out of the oven, and they haven't been laying around for hours. There's nothing better than a hot gooey chocolately croissant on a cold Sunday morning. I skip the egg wash and indulge even more and brush butter on it right out the oven....mmmm....

Agree with majority of comments - these are awesome! Have been to France many times and just returned from Montreal - these really are contenders for bakery croissants. Baked them on a pizza stone for extra crispness.

Found this site yesterday as I knew I was going to Trader Joe's today; I saw the raves on this and when I saw it in the freezer case (I was there to get good stuff for my diet!!) I had to get them. Haven't tried them yet but just wanted to say it was with the frozen breakfast items not desserts where I thought they would be so I almost missed it, in case anyone is looking for them.

These croissants are so amazing, the outside crispy, the inside soft and feathery--so much better out of your own oven than anything you can get at a bakery. I was also excited to see new plain, mini croissants yesterday. Nice to have a non-chocolate option. The plain ones are also amazing and a little less guilt-inducing because they are smaller. I hope they come out with an almond version; I love almond paste, and that would be heavenly.

I think the power of this site must be off the charts. Trader Joe's probably reads every word, because only a few months after my comment, above, they listened and came out with a plain version. They now have "Mini Croissants" ready to bake, in the freezer aisle. 8 to a box. Plain, beautifully plain. I baked them off and show a complete pictorial, here:

Yum!

These are so easy to make and taste better than the ones at my local bakery.

It was hard to leave Boston and miss the chocolate croissants from Quebrada bakery, but now we have TJ's in Milwaukee and some fabulous croissants!

Finally tried these this morning. Holy-moley, it was practically a religious experience! So flaky and light, with such tasty chocolate inside. They were every bit as good as those I've had from a bakery. And they couldn't be easier to make!

Just one warning, don't make any more than you intend to eat, because if you have more than one sitting in front of you, you WILL eat more than you planned to eat. They are that good!

Genius. I hope they last!
Unfortunately, Savannah does not have a TJ's so my husband and I make the 4.5 hr drive to Atlanta because we dream about these awesome chocolate croissants. They are the BEST!
