A delicious veggie burger that comes in 2 flavors, California and Tex Mex. Easy to cook, I use the george forman grill and they are done in a few minutes. They are tasty enough not to need any sauce on top, I just add cheese. Not always available but worth it when they are in stock.

The Tex Mex ones are my favorite. I heat them up in my toaster oven and eat them plain. They make a great easy and healthy snack.

These are some of the best veggie burgers I've tried, and I've tried them all! I find that I do have to be a little more gentle in handling them when taking them off the grill than some because they fall apart a little easier. The extra effort is definitely worth it!

We are veggie/garden burger fanatics and think that the Dr Prager California Veggie burger is the best commericially prepared garden burger we have found. Unlike other products on the market, you can look at the burger and actually identify what you are eating - you can see the peas,carrots, etc... that make up the pattie. They are not excessively spiced and you can ramp it up or keep the flavor mellow depending on your menu. The Dr. P California style burgers are great served on a bun (i.e. TJ sprouted wheat) and topped with melted Lisanatti Soy-Station Cheese (another TJ favorite)and bar b que sauce. We have tried nearly every possible prep method and find the microwave works best.

I seem to be the minority here, but I tried the California style ones and hated it, but I did eat it plain. Maybe I should give them another chance with a bun or some tj's bbq sauce!

California-->Yes, Tex-Mex-->No

I liked the Praeger burgers b/c they're made from ingredients other than soy. The California burger is really tasty and is a great freezer addition. I bought the Tex-Mex version today and tossed it after a few bites. It tastes like a blob of seasoned flour with random veggie chunks. The taste and texture was awful. I give the Cali burgers 2 thumbs up, but the Tex-Mex gets 3 thumbs down.

Delicious when cooked properly- no microwave for these babies- broil (toaster oven works great as previously mentioned) or grill and you don't get any of the mushiness. Lots of veggies and flavor!

If you're a vegetarian who likes products that actually taste meaty, this isn't for you. These are true veggie burgers and the consistency is a little strange at first, but I love them. They are great with onions on top :)

These taste good, but like most people said they fall apart when you try to pick them up. I microwave them since that's one way of heating them up without bothering to flip them over. But there still a problem if you put them in a bun and having them crumble and spill out.

After reading all the comments on these I thought I'd be sure to love them. I got the TEX-MEX, First off it fell apart even when I used a spatula :( I felt like I was eating a flavorless bread with beans in it.

About the crumbling
Reviewed by lovefood45, 2008-07-24
If you have a toaster oven I suggest you broil them, it only takes about 16-20 minutes and you don't need the oven to warm up, you can just stick them in. Whenever i use this technique they always come out firm and i have never had them crumble.

My preferred method of cooking veggie burgers is in a skillet with olive oil (to build a bit of a skin, like grilled meat burgers). So, as if on auto-pilot, I plopped a frozen Dr. Praeger burger on a hot, oiled skillet. All was well, until it fell apart when I tried to flip it - most annoying.
Of course, on the package it only recommends toaster oven, BBQ/grill or microwave - ugh.
So we try it in our non-broiler toaster oven and the other burger proceeds to disintegrate upon removal from the oven - again, most annoying.
The taste is wonderful, but the fact that the burger has so little fat in it works to its detriment when cooking the thing. I might try the Dr. Praeger burgers as samosa filling, which should work better. But as burgers, these are lacking in the most key element of all: staying in patty form.
