Mandarin Orange Chicken

One of TJ's all-time greats. As good or better than most Chinese restaurants. The orange sauce is not sweet like many cheaper versions and the chicken is tender with a crispy breading.

Just put it in the oven for 18 minutes, microwave the sauce, combine and you're ready. Makes great leftovers too.

Love this stuff!!! I will take the advice of other reviewers and add pre pepper flakes and reduce cooking temp. mext time.

I made this for the first time the other night and I was really impressed. Especially because it's apparently only 230 calories per serving? That's pretty amazing, because the servings are quite large. So it really can't be as fatty as people say, else it would have far more calories. But I can see that this would turn slimy (not fatty) if just cooked in the micro. I added some freshly roasted bell peppers to the mix, and served it over rice. Yummy!
This is my #1 fave! My husband would have me make this every night of the week if he could. It is so easy to make, just cook it on a baking sheet in the oven and microwave the sauce in a bowl. Then combine the two, mix well, and serve over rice. I always serve this over rice, not sure what else to do with it. In my opinion this doesn't taste very "orangey" so don't avoid it for that reason. SO GOOD!

This is a winner. The outside gets nice and crispy crunchy, and the chicken is quite tasty on the inside and not dried out. The sauce is also very good and will start to add some red pepper flakes to add some heat as suggested above. But this is a home run for TJ's.

The sauce is great! I love how crispy it gets cooking in the oven. (Why would you ever try cooking this in the microwave? Yuck.) BUT, there is waaaay too much breading on the chicken pieces. Some of the pieces are really small, so it's like you just get a mouth full of breading.

It's pretty good served over the organic brown rice.

I personally ignore when meat based dishes claim to be microwavable. You just know that it will turn out "meh". Take the time to use the oven on this one, it is so worth it! It crisps up really nice, and taste just like your typical "orange chicken" when tossed with the nuked sauce. I serve this with TJ's Organic Jasmine Rice (from frozen) and a side of steamed broccoli.

I fried the chicken pieces in a frying pan with some Peanut Oil until nice and crispy. After adding sauce, I mixed in some TJ's Oriental Stir Fry Veggies (prepare veggies before mixing in, or chicken will get soggy) and served with fried rice- my kids loved it and my son asked if it were "take out". Not an every day meal due to fat and calories, but a great treat to have once in a while.

I have a picky little boy, who eats this up. I serve it with the frozen brown rice. It's great.
I make it in the oven. I like it better than the take out chinese places out here.
I agree with the above poster that Costco's is better chicken but the T.J.'s sauce is better. Easy to make.

I will not say that this dish is delicious but it is better then most Chinese restaurants in LA.

They turn out nice and crispy and the sauce is good. Like many other people, I add a bit of red pepper flakes and I also add some chopped green onions and red and yellow pepper.

I am not a big fan of brown meat but this dish is overall a good dish.
Just cook some rice, and you've saved yourself $15 on Chinese take-out. Seriously, it's that good. Even though it's baked, you'd swear it was deep fried. Not in a greasy way--it's just the yummy batter and whatever they did to it before they froze it (I don't want to know).

Tried this for the first time last night-- Hubby & I agreed that this is as good as anything we've had at our local Chinese restaurant, and considerably cheaper! As for all the comments about the dark meat, my hubby is NOT a dark meat fan and he didn't even realize that this wasn't white meat until he read the packaging. If it were all white meat, I think it would be too dry. This is definitely going to be a great thing to keep on hand for busy weeknight suppers!

We love this at my house, even though it is dark meat, but would kill for the same meal with white meat! Excellent with some sticky rice and a sprinkling of green onions. Such a nice easy meal to whip up after a long day at work.

the sauce has a little kick to it, which is nice. i make it in the oven, and it works out well in there. the chicken could be a bit better quality, but the sauce is great. it's not a perfect substitute for our fav. chinese restaurant, but it's much better than any crappy one.

I agree with others, my only gripe with this is that I wish they made it with all white meat chicken. I buy this every time I go to Trader Joes!
