I am in love with these little frozen cups of breakfast joy. If you've never had steal cut oatmeal before, you have to try this. I don't even like regular oatmeal-- it's mushy and gross and sticks to my bowls. This stuff, on the other hand, is like a little cup of heaven. The oatmeal is smooth and had great texture-- almost like barley. Very toothsome. I mix in some raisens or frozen berries, though it does come slightly sweetened. Delicious and very healthy!

It's OK, but

This frozen stuff is a vast improvement over instant oatmenal, but not nearly as good as cooking steel cut oats on the stovetop. It's a texture thing. Real stealcut oats are sort of nutty. This frozen stuff is much smoother and mushier.

My local TJs just got these in. I love them. The are real convenient and delicious. I agree with terrier that they aren't exactly like slow cooked steel cuts, but they only take 4 minutes.

Once you've tried this, you will never go back to instant oatmeal again

It comes in two frozen individual servings, and you microwave it for four minutes each and you have a wonderful bowl of fabulous oatmeal. It has a maple, brown sugar flavor, but I think it could use a little more brown sugar. I put fresh blueberries on top, but I think any fruit or raisins would be equally good. It fills you up for hours and is only 150 calories per serving.

OK, so I fall for nice packaging. The box is so fancy-shmancy and just $1.59. If you ask me, it's Trader Joe's one-uping Whole Foods with products like this. Pretty, gourmet, healthy and (trump card) CHEAP.
Anyway, I agree with basically everyone. They are a bit runnier than I would make them but so quick and good. I also add stuff to make them sweeter but that's nice because one day I can add brown sugar and another fresh fruit.

I have to buy 3-4 boxes at a time, just because we only have 1 TJ's here at the moment, and this stuff is ALWAYS sold out.
Buy 4-6 boxes to start, then 2-3 more each time you go to keep it on hand!

What is a boy to do !?!? Tj's has been out of my twice a week addiction now for almost 2 weeks! I've gone for a few days, but not weeks!
Supposed to be back in stock within 2-4 weeks at the Warehouse, but I tell you... two more weeks w/o those frozen pucs of perfection... and I might just start going into withdrawl!

I finally picked up some of this, based on the reviews here. I think this is a fantastic product. It comes out a lot like my steel-cut via the stove top method. But then again, I may add more liquid than most.
I also appreciate the fact that it is not pre-sweetened (per se) leaving the final flavoring and sugar content up to my personal preference. It's also very convenient todller fodder as well.

Yummy and lower in calories!

How is nearly 3 times as much (by volume) of this oatmeal lower in calories than the Oatmeal Complete(1 pkt)? Amazing. And it tastes so much better. Okay, so it costs more per breakfast, but for someone working the Weight Watchers, it's really an awesome option. 2.5 points for a significant amount of tsty filling breakfast...and no wait! AWESOME. I'll be getting alot more of this!

This product is very convenient, and you certainly get your money (and belly's) worth. Still, it's a bit on the flavorless side. I had to thin it out with some milk, then boost the flavor with walnuts, cranberries, and bit of maple syrup before I really enjoyed it.

I love McCann's Steel Cut Oats but who has time to stand over the stove for 30 minutes in the morning? These frozen oatmeal hockey pucks (which initially struck me as totally unappealing) are a great quick n easy second best. As many have pointed out, the hockey puck can use a little something extra. I add an additional 2 tablespoons of milk, 1 teaspoon of maple syrup and a pinch of salt after I pull the bowl out of the microwave. Just one serving keeps my hunger at bay almost until lunchtime!

Based on all the comments here, I finally decided to grab a box and try the oatmeal.
I liked it, but I agree that the oatmeal alone doesn't cut it. I like to add a spoonful of that greek style yoghurt and some berries, mix it together, and it's a lot better.

Also only 150 calories for that much oatmeal.

This stuff is great. Its not exactly like home made steel cut oats, like everyone has said, but it still has more texture and interest than regular oatmeal, even the homemade rolled kind. Yum yum, too bad it doesn't come in bigger boxes, or smaller prices.

I decided to give this a try because it was so deliciously described in their Fearless Flyer several months ago. Heck, even the little fruit on top of the oatmeal on the packaging makes it look good.
But it was too bland for me as I'm used to soy milk, bananas, and berries in my oatmeal which add to the texture and consistency.
To this, I'll add cinnamon, honey or brown sugar (1t) , a banana, and if I'm feeling "berry" a tablespoon of TJ's Omega-3 Cranberries.
A pack of 2 costs less than $2.
