Tarte Alsace

Tarte Alsace
True to Alsacian culinary tradition... Just kidding, I know nothing about that, but this tart looked really good. My hubby is not a fan of carmelized onions, but he liked it as well. Cooking tip: careful taking it out of the box and putting it in the oven if it defrosts. It gets really flimsy and you are supposed to put it straight on the rack. When it bakes, it stiffens, so it's easy to take out. Eat it while it's warm, otherwise the dough gets hard. Not good leftovers, but hey, it's 8oz and so delicious, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I always have one of these in the freezer. Every time I want one, they're sold out so I buy a few at a time now. It's great paired with a salad as a meal or cut into small pieces as an appetizer. It's probably my favorite thing to eat with Pinot Grigio...

Only thing that could possibly improve on this -- adding REAL German style bacon (speck)before baking.
Another gal that misses her flammkuchen, or flammekueche at her favorite cafe in Strassbourg, add some Alsatian or German white wine -- perfection!
Keep it in the freezer as a standby --again I agree, great with some wine before the dinner party begins!

I always have a couple of these in my freezer. Great goosed with more Gruyere and a little deli ham. I ordered something like this in a very expensive NYC restaurant for major bucks and it wasn't as good as this one.

I always have one in my freezer --great goosed with a little more Gruyere and slivers of deli ham. I had something like this in a fancy NYC restaurant and it wasn't this good!

Shopped last week, wanted to try some new things. The ingredients sounded good and states on the package that it makes delicious impressive appetizers; but . . I ate the whole thing for dinner tonite. It was really great. I baked it on a pizza stone at the recommended temp. The edge of the crust around the top came out golden browned and delicately crispy with the underside a bit chewy.
..must...have...more...

I was amazed by the flaky crust. Serve with a salad or another side, or else you may eat the whole thing!
I have only bought one. It was the most delicious thing that I've ever tasted. It reminded me of France for sure. I just can't get addicted to it, so I'm trying not to get another one.

I love this item, but the cream has way of breaking the bottom of the crust. I add arugula and sheved red onion tossed in white turffle oil and put that on top after it is cooked.
