Mexican Red Sauce
Trader Joe's says "This is a traditional sauce made from tomatoes and three varieties of chiles - ancho, pasilla and chipotle - with garlic, cumin and oregano for extra flavor. "

It's great on tacos and also anyplace you'd use ketchup or a dipping sauce, like chicken fingers, fries, or those little party meatballs.

My fiancee thinks this is the best enchilada sauce I've ever used. Last time I slow-cooked the marinated tri-tip TJs sells and then shredded it and used the Truly Homemade corn tortillas and cotija cheese along with this sauce for enchiladas to die for.
I love using this as an enchilada sauce. So good!

This red sauce has just the right amount of kick to it. It is the best that I have found.

I love mixing this sauce with shredded chicken or pork, or even tuna. Then put in a wrap with a little cheddar or jack cheese and zap for about 30-45 sec. YUM!
Hi there,

Trader Joes in Amherst, MA does not sell this sauce and I would like to know if its the same case everywhere? I don't think I found a similar product as this sauce is simply awesome! Can anybody please tell me, where I can find this in any other store other than Trader Joes??

Thanks

I used this for chicken and cheese enchiladas as suggested above. This sauce is perfect. They turned out great. I am excited to try it with other dishes. Maybe mix it in with some refried beans heat up and top with shredded cheese for a side dish.

Wish that they did not discontinue it... Maybe we need more people complaining to TJ's that we need it back on the shelves...
WOW! talk about a sauce that tastes like it was simmering for hours!, ive had authentic mexican food from mexico and this is cutting it pretty close, try it on chicken/ground beef/ veggies/ soups for extra kick, yum!!

I email Trader Joes about this sauce and they responded the next day with this-

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. The Mexican Red Sauce was
discontinued due to slow sales. I will let our buyer know that this is
missed. If we receive enough requests to return a discontinued item,
our buyers will sometimes give it a second run.

Trader Joe's approach to the grocery industry has always been quite
different from the mega-chains. Because our stores have such limited
shelf space, if our customers aren't buying a product, we take that as a
majority vote against it and we will bring in something else in its
place.

Again, we appreciate your feedback and it will be shared in the next
marketing meeting.

Sincerely,

Ana

I love this stuff! Just opened a new bottle purchased a while back - will have to conserve it I guess!
I never noticed it before but TJ's carries and enchilada sauce in a very similar looking bottle. Could they have just changed the label to enchilada sauce from Mexican Red Sauce? Maybe with a minor tweak of the recipe....I would also like to know people's thoughts on the enchilada sauce and how good it may or may not be.

Really great to mix with a bit of sour cream, mayo or even TJ's greek yogurt, whirl in some cilantro or parsley, and you've got a wonderful creamy dressing to top on your Taco Salad.

Still miss this great sauce...
The enchilada sauce is NOT the same as the red sauce. I tried them both, and the red sauce is much better. I also wrote to the company and they replied that the product was discontinued due to slow sales..hard to believe b/c everyone seems to love it. Perhaps they will revisit this decision if enough requests are received.
