Spicy Black Bean Chips(46 votes)Rate this listing Because these chips are made with black beans, they are thicker and more substantial than others. But they also have less fat. Spicy too! Submitted on 03/19/2006 by nancoix

These are some awesome chips. I like the taste and it has a little spicy bite at the end.

I just got 2 bags of those Black Bean Chips!
I love them especially with 'Cilantro Jalapeno Hummus.' (I know it sounds weird, but the sour spicy taste of hummus with these bean chips is just the perfect spice kick I always need) byHenne, June 29, 2007
These are great chips however they have been discontinued and the store in Issaquah, WA said they won't be getting anymore. So far my inquiries to the Trader Joe's web site have gone unanswered. Does anybody know of anywhere else to purchase these? I'm thinking that they are made for TJ's by an outside company.
Thanks. bykathrynbec, June 30, 2007
I love the regular black bean chips, but they aren't available any more. I ate them regularly and I miss them! Is there any way I can still get them?

My favorite has been the plain Bean Chips made with pinto beans. I also eat them regularly but they are definitely discontinued. For several years, I have brought packages home when I visit Portland, OR. I still have about 5 in the freezer. I was able to buy the spicy ones in May and believe they are still available. I also have written and not received a reply. What can we do to start a crusade to get them back!

Hi Folks,
My company was the manufacturer for the TJ’s Bean chips for over 12 years. First off, I would like to personally thank everyone for purchasing our products. I would also like to thank TJ’s for being such a great company. I wish all my customers were of this caliber. I know there are a great number of people out there that would like to know where they can purchase the bean chips so I’ll list some of our retail outlets. We manufacture our products under the “El Rancho” label. They are El Rancho Black Bean and Garlic Chips and El Rancho Black Bean and Jalapeno Chips. The only difference is the TJ’s Bean chips were made with Pinto beans, other than that the formulas are the same. The retail stores that are carrying our products are, Henry’s Marketplace, Von’s Pavilion (IN THE DELI SECTION), How’s market in San Gabriel, CA, Howies in San Gabriel, CA, Julienne’s in San Marino, CA (a great place to eat too) If you are unable to find them or you don’t live in the Southern CA region we can ship via Fed Ex. At this time we can only ship in case quantities. A case consists of 12- 7oz. bags. We can be reached at (800) 327-2572. Thanks again, La Vencedora Products Inc. bybuddyamb, July 25, 2007
The chips at Tj'S prior to being discontinued are not the same as those sold at Henrys and others. Thehey have much more sodium than the chps supplied to TJs.
Why are they discontinued ? Was by TJ s or the manufactor? I can"t get a response from TJs corporate jerks. byRegulator, July 26, 2007
TJ's needs to stop discontinuing popular and in-demand products. This is the best chip ever created. I better see it magically appear back on the shelves next visit or I'll take a stinky dump in their bathroom.

these were my favourite TJ product and a staple of my diet. I was so annoyed when I was told they would not be returning to the shelf...
I would try the alternative brand if I could buy less than a case. maybe the only solution is to learn to make my own. who makes these decisions anyway? I mean, if all they want to carry is the most centre-of-bell-curve popular cr*p, they should just change their name to Safeway and stop pretending to be a "specialty" market. byDeAnander, August 3, 2007
at garrettsemporium.com in onesies, if you can face the pricey shipping.

I broke down and bought a case of the ones with Jalepeno. It was a very positive experience! First I called and the price was $22 SHIPPED! For 12 bags that was less than $2 a bag. The morning I discovered them on my porch, I ate 2/3 of a bag for breakfast. I gave two or three bags away but the rest are gone, after only about 4-5 weeks. They have become my favorite snack and I had to come back to the website to get the phone number again (which is now dutifully stored in my hard drive!) Just wanted everyone to know that they were great, and how much I appreciate being able to "discover" a source after an empty-handed and disappointing trip to Trader Joes (which is about 25 miles for me.)

I too ordered from El Rancho and had the same positive experience as ncstacie. I ordered both the Spicy Bean and Bean with Garlic flavors. Couldn't order my fave - the wonderful pinto bean chips. Turns out they were a were a Trader Joe's exclusive. Unlike ncstacie, I haven't given away any bags except to my freezer where I know from experience they will last a long time (packed inside a Ziploc). Thank you, grebv7, for giving us the information for ordering.

You can purchase our El Rancho brand online at www.elranchochips.com We manufactured the Trader Joe's bean chips that they no longer stock.
byminimajor, November 28, 2007
These are great chips! TJ's no longer carries them, supposedly because they did not sell well in some locations. In our location they did not sell well because they so seldom had them on the shelves. I guess if you don't restock the shelves you don't have to order the product, a merchandising practice I remember observing in the Air Force BX system. Bring 'em back, please!

Thank you to all who probed the missing chips issue. We have been distraught over our missing Spicy Black Bean Chips. We ate them with EVERYTHING. So happy to find a close substitute. Thanks to El Rancho for weighing in.
this chips with spice!!!
I had tried to find this chips to bring back home last September in California but there were not any in 3 stores. I was really disapointed not have this. Results 1 - 17 of 17
