Chicken Chile Verde(89 votes)Rate this listing Authentic New Mexican taste with lots of green chiles. More of a soup than a stew, but plenty of little chicken bits. Scoop it up with some of TJ's tortilla chips! Submitted on 09/19/2006 by nancoix

I didn't think this looked anything like the picture on the box. It is very "watery" after cooking, not something thick to put over rice or scoop up with tortilla chips. I thickened it before eating but wouldn't recommend it the way it is now.

We made this as a soup and put an egg over easy on top and made a delicious meal. Kinda peasy on its own but tasty with the egg. Good luck.

Add a can of white kidney beans and chopped tri-color peppers and some hot sauce and it rocks as a chicken chili

i didn't particularly like this after i microwaved it. maybe it's my weak microwave oven but it was definitely watery as a previous reviewer commented, and kind of bland to boot. it was okay after i spiced it up and used it as a topping for nachos, but i dont think i'll buy it again.

I really looked forward to trying this as we love the chicken chili verde burritos, but YUCK. We found this to be too gross to even eat. And it does not look at all like on the box!

I think it is a little watery, but it makes an awesome chilequiles. I'll pull together that recipe and post it.
I, too, was surprised at how watery it was. However, both my husband and I thought it was delish over brown rice. The rice soaked up the broth. Just the right touch of heat for me (not too much).

I think this is my favorite thing at trader joes... when it's done cooking I add the juice of one lime, some shredded cheddar cheese and some fresh avocado slices if I have it. SOOOO Yummy. I defrost if for a bit in the microwave before cooking on the stove or it takes forever to unfreeze.

i bought this despite the reviews and found if you leave it on the skillet longer for some of the water to evaporate then it tastes like a soup, and yes it was VERY good

hubby and i enjoyed this with TJ's truly homemade flour torilla. yum! also, this was spicier than i was expecting it to be, but that's a *good* thing. i'd buy this again...

A good level of spice -- and very tasty. We ate it out of a bowl with some tortilla chips for dipping, but will probably serve it OVER something next time -- rice, perhaps. Because it was somewhere between soup and stew -- and not quite 2 servings.

The packaging makes them very hard to defrost, but it's def. worth it.

I bought this item a couple of months ago. Everytime I saw it in my freezer, I couldn't figure out what to do with it. The box contains a big bag of the "stuff". It's manufactured by a company called Bueno Foods in New Mexico who makes authentic salsas and sauces. They should say on their website that they make soup, too!!
Finally, I had it last night. After eating it, I am convinced it is soup, but it could have many other uses like the other comments suggest. The greatest part that no one pointed out is how healthy it is, except if you need to restrict your sodium intake. The entire package is 5 grams of fat and 14 grams of carbs! That's fantastic. I will definitely buy it again and probably add some whole grain pasta and some crushed pita chips! If it is not soup, then it is definitely to watery. I'd love it if TJ's buyers paid more attention to the sodium. The whole package contains 1,960mg! Wow!! byMaryContrary, August 10, 2008
If this is anything like the chicken chile verde burritos, it must be incredible! And the burritos aren't watery...

I always cook this on the skillet frozen and drain away the water as it cooks. I leave it in the skillet till it reduces down a bit. It actually tastes like my moms chile verde. I use it as a filling for enchiladas and sopes instead of just shredded chicken and they turn out delicious.
I had this for lunch today over brown rice. A cup of Chicken Chile Verde over a cup of Brown rice made a HUGE meal and kept me satisfied for hours. The flavors are amazing, and I highly recommend it! It was a little watery after heating, but I just scooped with a slotted spoon. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
