Dreaming of VeniceAll the taste of this classic Venetian torte but without the bad smell from the Grand Canal. I don't know if this is really an authentic Venetian torte, or if a native of Venice would even recognize it, but here is what the box says: Caramel and hazelnut cream, pistachio biscuit, an almond crust topped with chocolate. I think mine was missing the layer of chocolate and it looks different than the picture on the box.I enjoyed this, although it seemed a bit mushy and would have benefited from a thicker or crisper crust. Of course the box made me want to try this immediately, but after tasting I could've saved the calories for something else. I agree the crust needs to be reformulated b/c it became lost. The "cream" was to soft and runny, so the slices didn't hold up well.

To answer Rollo, I do believe this cake is authentic. According to TJ it is made by a "boutique pastry company in Southern Italy." - So at least it has that going for it.
I really thought I was going to love it. I almost talked myself into it ... but after my second slice (on 2 separate days) I knew I had to return it. (I LOVE TJ's return policy!) It just wasn't for me. It was really super sweet and it was missing texture. I 100% agree with the other posters on this one. The thing is, I hardly ever am disappointed with anything I get at TJ's (there food is incredible!) so I am really shocked when I do get something I do not like. But we really can't expect to like everything. I would skip this one unless you really love your sweets sweet - and don't mind a cake who's layers are not defined well. (With the $8 you save, you can buy several different items!) bytjsage, January 14, 2007
I guess other people don't love hazelnut and pistachios the way I do. I absolutely love this torte as does my husband and 13 year old son. It gets too mushy if you let it thaw too long. It is best when it is just past frozen. I can't get enough of it. Hope other people love it so TJ's doesn't discontinue it. Anyone have the recipe?
