Hawaiian Red Sea Salt(13 votes)Rate this listing I don't know why this salt is red, but once you get over the strangeness, it adds a nice aesthetic touch as well as great taste. They also had Hawaiian Black Sea salt, but that was too strange. A very powerful addition to your food. Just a few crystals are all you need. I'll try the black variety next week. This red sea salt is awesome for grilling! Rub a little on chicken, fish or veggies - especially portobello mushrooms or asparagus. It keeps everything beautifully moist and gives a great flavor!

It's red because during the harvesting process 'Alaea is added. It doesn't change the flavor, but does change the coloring. 'Alaea is composed of over 80 different minerals that no other salts provide.

I was surprised to find this and the black salt here. Pleasantly surprised. A beautiful, and mineral laden salt that has the wonderful flavor of unrefined sea salts. It makes for a beautiful presentations when serving meals to guests.

I love, love, love this finishing salt.. along with the black charcoal salt.. And at TJ's prices, were great bargains compared to what you would pay at Whole Foods. Both, however, seem to have disappeared. Have they been discontinued?
