Garlic Fries
(44 votes)Rate this listing
I absolutely love garlic. It goes in just about every recipe I make, and people usually look worried by the amount I put in. I thought this would be right up my alley.
I have to say unfortunately I was disappointed (and this was my first TJ's product).
I was making them for myself so I just put about one serving in the oven. After cooking, I opened the seasoning bag to put some on and seriously got HIT in the face with the strongest smelling garlic ever. It contained lots of huge chunks of absolutely raw garlic, and didn't even seem to have mellowed in the marinade. After tasting my fries, I threw the rest of the seasoning packet away, and I reeked of garlic for the rest of the night! I had to burn two candles today after work when I noticed the smell was still very strong.
On the positive side, the fries themselves were absolutely delicious and I would buy them again on their own merit and toss the packet.
If you think you love garlic more than I, definitely go for it, but I suggest warming up (in a bowl of warm water) the packet and snipping it open to get a sense of what you are in for. I realized afterwards that the garlic might be better if you coat the fries before you bake them. I've done that with minced garlic on regular potatoes before and it comes out great. I maybe brave enough to give that a try next time!

I too LOVE garlic and use a lot of it, but this is a packet of raw garlic with some other strong flavors that you are supposed to douse your fries with. We tried a little bit but it was too strong. The fries themselves are just fine, although nothing special really.

...before I opened the wee seasoning packet that comes with the fries. Life was different then. I took all sense of smell, and my own personal scent, for granted.
These fries were not meant to be eaten. They were to be sold to unsuspecting TJ's customers in an effort to blind their sense of taste and smell.
People look at me differently now... is it that I smell like a rotted garlic clove festering in a warm bowl of water? Or is it that I have no hair?
No eyebrows, nosehair. All gone. It was the fumes I tell you.. The FUMES!!! They've made me mad!
Now I leave the confines of my home only at night... past the witching hour, when no one will see me sauntering my putrid and hideous carcass to trader joes...
One day, the scent will pass. As will I, like the flatulence of a bear that's eaten too much garlic.

These sounded so good in theory but WHOA!! Even a wholehearted garlic lover is likely to gag on these! Too bad because the actual fries were very nice, little crisby but soft inside, so GOOD, I wish I hadn't dumped the garlic packet on it!

Don't use as much of the packet, its not rocket science.
Baked is good but try these in a deep fryer as well, yum!

I love garlic, so I thought I would love these - but they were too strong (and I'm typically adding more garlic to my already garlic dishes).

Oh good. I thought I was crazy for not liking the fries with the seasoning. I just save the garlic packets for soup starters, stir fries, cooking rice... Pretty handy.

I was intrigued when I saw these in the frozen foods case. I am the quitessential garlic lover as I always double or triple-up (at least) in any recipe and I've been known to smother the tops of a frozen pizzas with 20 or more finely chopped cloves. I credit garlic for my 84 years of excellent health, and the fact that I am seldom bothered by tiresome strangers. There is no such thing as too much garlic...
Unfortunately, these fries are for wimps. If they're going to call them "Garlic Fries" then they oughtn't skimp on the garlic. Good thing I had a couple heads on hand to salvage these. Next time I'll know better...

i love garlic, and i thought these were good! i guess you REALLY have to be a garlic lover though. if it's your first time trying these, start out with just a little bit of the garlic packet and proceed with caution. i used the whole thing and i loved it! :) (fries were kinda weird though. sort of salty tasting, but edible.)

Like everyone else, I love garlic. These fries were a sore disappointment. The sauce that comes with them is, at least. It's not even that the garlic flavor is strong, it's that it tastes so chemical-like and fake. It ruined otherwise good fries.
They are great without the sauce, however. The Chipotle Ranch Fries are way better.

I LOVE garlic and put it in almost everything I cook, but other than a few real hard-core garlic heads, who eats raw garlic? I've had garlic fries at sporting events and that garlic is roasted. This stuff is RAW. We had to throw everything away and then throw out the trash bag because I dumped the whole packet onto the fries. Needless to say, there was little cuddling that night.
These taste just like the Gordon Biersch fries I get at ATT Park. I love them and get one each shopping trip. When the Giants are on tv I can make these and feel like I'm at the game.
If you are going out after having these try some Breath Assure and you don't smell like garlic at all.

Yes, the garlic is strong. But we like it. My 13 year old and 8 year old chomp these up like mad. Only my husband finds it too much, gives him heartburn but he still wants to eat them.

I agree with many of the others that the garlic included with these fries is gross on the fries. The fries are great on their own. Don't throw away the garlic though. It is great in a number of other dishes! The one pack will give great flavor to several dishes, or use the whole pack for really garlicky recipes like shrimp scampi. I buy these often and consider the garlic a bonus like the prize in a box of cracker jacks.

My girlfriend loves these...I made them last night and I still have girlic breath..it is very good though.Make sure you cook the frie until they are crisp. The sauce tends to make the fries a little soggy.

i'm surprised these didn't get near 5 stars. when i can't make it to taylor's refresher at the ferry building, i eat these garlic fries. they're much better than the ones i've gotten at any other restaurant/diner. yes, they are garlicky, but that's why they're so good!
