Mochi Ice Cream

Mochi Ice Cream
Little balls of ice cream (about golf ball size) all wrapped up in a Japanese manju coating. Manju are Japanese confections with a sweet filling and a sort of glutinous outer layer made from mochi, or pounded rice cakes. This same outer layer is what surrounds the ice cream. They're dusted with rice flour so they don't stick to things.

These are amazingly good. Trader Joe's usually has them in chocolate, strawberry, green tea, and mango flavors. The green tea and mango ones are excellent. I can take or leave the chocolate and strawberry ones. They come six to a package and are a little pricey for what you get, but they're so good they're worth it.

6 to a box and they are nothing special. Do you eat them with a spoon or by hand? If you eat by hand they are super cold or else they melt.

I like the strawberry and mango ones and I eat them after they have been room temp for a minute or two. These bad boys can get hard as a rock!

Fun to eat as a dessert hors d'oeuvre...
