Reduced-Fat FetaTrader Joe's reduced-fat feta was the answer to my perfect greek salad!!I spent 4 months backpacking Europe after college and have been trying to recreate some of my favorite dishes (healthfully) since returning to the States. My favorite dish hands-down while abroad was none other than a killer greek salad with lots of delicious feta and fresh bell peppers but the calorie count for the amount of feta used got to be ridiculous. Several companies make fat-free feta varieties but let's face it, they taste strangely reminiscent of sheet plastic. To my rescue comes Trader Joe's with a reduced-fat feta which is sold in 8oz. blocks boasting only 40 calories per 1oz serving, half the cals of regular feta, and just as tasty! I can now whip up a delicious greek salad like the one I had in Europe that tastes just as amazing with only a fraction of the calories. The only downside is that this variety is not sold in crumbled form as is called for in most recipes so you have to crumble it yourself. In my mind it's still a small price to pay for healthier cooking without sacrificing the taste. I'm picky about low fat products but got this just spur of the moment. It has a great flavor to it, some of the best feta I've had. I will probably choose this over their regular feta next time.
