Shrimp with Green Curry and Jasmine Rice
New in my Sacramento California location this month, from the freezer aisle, is Trader Joe's ready-to-nuke Shrimp with Green Curry and Jasmine Rice.

There are very few curries, chutneys and spicy savory Thai and Indian dishes which I don't like, and I'm not averse to a spicy dish, but I don't want a full assault on my taste buds from heat in any dish. I love red curry, green curry, yellow curry, you name it.

My basic rule of thumb is that if I need to quickly grab a glass of milk to cut the effect of capsaicin in chili based dishes, my opinion is that it's too hot and will mask delicate flavors.

I was encouraged by this frozen entree because the package reads "It has some heat but isn't overwhelmingly spicy and it has a little sweetness to cut that heat a bit."

The dish was beautiful, cooked quickly in the microwave, but unfortunately, for the entire 13 oz entree, it had only 4 shrimp, but for a $2.99 entree, this is acceptable. I assembled according to directions, took a bite, and ... egads. My mouth was on FIRE.

I tried several times to love this entree and kept going back for another forkful because I could taste the lime, the coconut milk, the curry, but that PEPPER -- just too much. Every forkful made me shudder with the brackish overwhelming heat. I had to gulp some milk and into the trash it went.

This dish is HOT for those who like mild to moderate dishes, and probably "just right" for those who like spicy curries.

Yowza! My mouth is on fire, too. Much hotter than I expected.

I love green curry and the occasional spicy (grab-the-water/milk/sour cream) dish. This was very tasty and quite hot which was what I expected reading this review. My husband loves super spicy stuff and he had to finish it up, though. He liked it.

It's GOOD, I'm glad I tried it and I may buy it again in the future but it did not make my top faves list.

I tried this when they were having a tasting at my local TJs and loved it. Thought gee, I wish the package wasn't so small since I liked it so much. Then when I made it for lunch one day I was really shocked just how spicy it was, but for me this was a very good thing. I love spicy foods--this isn't habanaro level of hot but certainly one of the spiciest ready made meals I've had. There are still a lot great flavors going on with the heat too. In terms of the smallish portion size, the heat makes it just right for lunch. I really hope this becomes a permanent product.

I definitely had high hopes for this dish, and after my first bite I thought - Wow! But after my second, third, fourth...that quickly tapered off. Very hot. I did not really taste much "sweetness" that was mentioned on the box. Also, the peas and mini eggplants(?) were very odd tasting to me, though I was happy to see something unusual in a frozen meal and try something new. I may be too inexperienced in my curry tastes.
Pretty good, but could have used a few more shrimp. This dish was really too heavy on the hot pepper. Package said "some heat" but my husband and I both found it overly hot!

This dish is indeed hot, but not too for me and very delicious. Add some yogurt or dairy to cool it down...it is worth it!
I really enjoyed this! I have to disagree about the level of heat. I wouldn't change it one bit.
I am a wimp when it comes to spice, and although I do find this dish hot, it is entirely WORTH IT! Just pause in between bites--that's better for you anyway. And you get to savor the amazing flavors more. The veggies are so different than the norm, I had to look them up online to find out what they are. This is a welcome break from the same old-same old pasta-chicken-sauce stuff out there. And the shrimp are rather large, with just the right amount. Any more and the dish would be unbalanced. Anyone who likes curries should try this, as it truly is a flavor explosion in your mouth. It is my favorite thing at Trader Joe's right now and I hope it sticks around!
