The cake is light and airy, the strawberries taste real and the whipped cream is real. What more could you want? Maybe better packaging. While the plastic tub the cake sits in protects it, it also makes it difficult to remove the cake. TJ's suggests removing the cake while frozen which may help. I'd suggest an inverted top instead. But the cake is very good, will serve maybe four people--or one depending on your mood.

I've been buying Trader Joe's desserts for god-knows-how-long now, and this is possibly one of the best. The tartness of the berries combined with the light cream is heavenly. I do agree with the previous comment that the box is a bit awkward, but the cake itself is so good that I usually just eat it all out of the box in one go.

I second, third, and fourth all the positive comments about this cake. My only complaint is that it's a bit on the small side. The nutrition panel claims it serves 5, but it's more like 2 or 3 servings.

strawberries don't taste that fresh...to me it's too creamy. i was expecting something fruitier. in TJ's frozen desserts, my favourites are now the wild blueberry tarte, the caneles and the tatin

I do find this cake to be very tasty, but to me, shortcake is made of biscuit-like cakes. There's an Asian bakery that makes fresh fruit cakes in a similar style with sponge cake and whipping cream. I remember getting one for an office birthday party and one person commented that it was like Wonder bread and Cool Whip. I guess that's a pretty good description of the consistency, but of course, this tastes much better.
