Vegetable Samosas

I'm not a huge samosa fan, but my girlfriend snagged a pack at TJ's last night. When we got home she popped them in the microwave. (I know, microwave samosas? Apparently they have a sleeve that you microwave them in that maintains the crisp and flaky outer shell.) I took a bite just to try them and they were fantastic. The vegetables tasted fresh, the crust was perfect. I could scarcely believe they had been microwaved. We were dipping them in TJ's sweet and sour sauce and it was a perfect combination. Once again, my girlfriend and Trader Joe's comes through for me. I'm going to swing by and pick up a few more packages tonight.

The sleeve (think microwavable mini pizzas) worked great. I thought they were pretty authentic tasting. They have diced potatoes, carrots, peas, lentils, onions and savory Indian spices. Mmmm.

I cooked these traditionally in the oven and they came up light and srispy and tasty -OMG they were SO unexpectedly good. I had a tzatziki (cucumber-yogurt) sauce in the frig which I used as a dipping sauce and the balance cooled off the flavorful samosa. What a treat!

when I microwaved mine, they were a little hard on the outside ('tough') but were still tasty. I tried them with the thai peanut sauce, but I should have tried them with the sweet and sour sauce instead. THe Tzatzki sounds like a good idea as well.

I usually steer clear of restaurant samosas because they are so packed with potatoes and overwhelmingly large. These are the perfect size for snacking and dipping with a good mix of peas and potatoes. An added bonus is how crispy they are right out of the oven.

The texture was right, the crispness was right, but holy moly, I found these to be surprisingly spicy, a bit much. The warmth of the spice overpowers the vegetables for me, but I may be used to my favorite Indian restaurant's version, in which spices are subtle and I can taste the vegetables. Still, they are very decent.

These make for a great snack. I even would serve them to guests. For those that may find them too spicy, I suggest dipping them in some type sweet or cool sauce to cool the heat off a bit. The sweet sauce would balance out the heat beautifully.

I love Samosa's and these were a huge surprise for "fast food". Delicious! I do mine in the oven and I found that they take twice as long as the package mentions. I do 10 minutes on each side. That time gives wonderful crispy outsides and succulent insides. I like the smaller size.

Maybe I kept them in the microwave too long, because the crust was a little tough

This are really good, but add some TJ's indian relish and they are fantastic. Plus, they are even great when they are microwaved.

I always get the India Relish with these - they seem to be made for each other.

These are just as good as any samosas I've had in India or US Indian restaurants. They have a lot less of the fried dough component, which makes them quite a bit healthier, I would imagine. I'm especially impressed with the crispiness they maintain after microwaving.

I did not like these at all. They were to mushy. The sauce was alright. I would not buy these again.

These are DELICIOUS! Cut the heat w/sweet n sour sauce or sour cream and salsa. They taste great made in the oven or microwave. I keep 5-8 boxes in the freezer. They take 5 minutes in the microwave and are surprisingly good.

I made a couple of boxes of these in the oven for SuperBowl and they were a hit! Everyone loved them. The only sauce I had on hand was the TJ's chinese 5 spice to go with them...and people gobbled them up. Would buy again.

Being able to microwave these and have them ready quickly is great -- and they taste great too! I don't think they're that spicy but we have lots of Indian restaurants here in Northern California. If you live somewhere with blander food then these might wake your taste buds up in a hurry! My 10 year old son loves these for an after school snack so I usually keep 2-3 boxes in the freezer when they're in stock. We have about6-8 frozen veggie items we always keep on hand and this is one of them.

I love these for lunch paired with a big salad. I don't like them in the microwave. I put them in the toaster oven for a crispy crust.

No sauce included. I learned that the hard way the first time when I brought them in for lunch. I like them with a sweeter tamarind sauce.
