Chicken Masala(68 votes)Rate this listing I was quite suprised by how good this was. It had a very strong tomato curry masala sauce that was almost as good as the ones I have had in Indian restaurants. The seasoning on the rice was light, and it went well with the masala sauce. There were large pieces of white chicken, more than I would have expected. It was spicy, but not overly. Very filling. I highly recommend this for a quick and easy meal. It only has 320 calories and it is so much better than any of the diet frozen meals I have tried. Submitted on 02/19/2006 by sugarsnap

For 320 calories this is a great meal! Indian food is usually much higher in fat and calories. This frozen meal really does taste like it could be take out instead!

It tasted like another Indian food frozen meal that I get at the health food store.

Until I tried this frozen meal from TJ's the only other place I have eaten Chicken Masala is the food courts at Faneuil Hall and the Prudential Center in Boston. Those meals cost at least $7 and the frozen TJ meal was as good, if not better, for less than half the price. Whenever I go to TJ's I buy several boxes planning to eat them for lunch. Unfortunately my teenage daughter discovered them so there usually aren't any in the freezer when I want one. They are so, so much better than the frozen diet meals the supermarkets sell. If you haven't tried this yet I urge you to run out and get some (but leave some for me). Add a small garden salad and you have a wonderful, filling and healthy meal.

It is ok, but not something I would recommend over the real deal. It seems to lack some sort of spice that is needed to make an indian dish complete (I would know since a good majority of my heritage is indian). If you're in a pinch, I guess it's a start. You could always add a couple things to it to make it better.

I generally have bad luck with frozen meals (probably because I'm so picky) but this was pretty darn good. Not as creamy or fattening as my neighborhood Indian take-out, but a decent substitute. The sauce was fairly spicy and the rice had a nice light lemony flavor. I sopped up most of the sauce with a piece of nan, and ate the rice separately.

This is pretty good for a frozen entree. There is an average of five chicken pieces, but plenty of mild curry sauce to eat with the brown rice. I buy this for those days I'm craving Indian curry, but don't want to go out for a full blown Indian meal. This is a convenient lunch to bring to work. Watch out though---I could still smell the curry spices on my clothes after I had eaten. This is not cubicle-friendly ;)

This is the best frozen Chicken Masala I have ever had. It's high in fiber (7 grams) and protein (32 grams) which help keep you full and is very low in natural sugar (5 grams) and saturated fat (3 grams). As an Indian weight loss doctor, I highly recommend this product to any patient who likes Indian food.

The chicken and sauce were surprisingly good for a frozen product and amazingly low in calories. Wasn't a huge fan of the rice though. If you like this a lot, get the frozen naan breads to keep with it.

I love that there is so much sauce with this meal. It's a great, low-calorie lunch. I find that the rice isn't that great by itself, so I always mix it with the leftover sauce, which helps SO much.

I love TJ's Chicken Masala but haven't been able to find it at the TJ's in Cary, NC. Is it still available? I hoep they don't discontinue it.

I'm in Santa Monica, CA. I've looked at a few Trader Joe's around here... no luck. I think this one might be a goner! I'm so sad!

I used to get this all the time until they stopped offering it at my TJ's.
It was such a healthy and satisfying lunch, I was full for the rest of the day when I ate this! Not back on the calories either. I hope they bring this back! At $1.99, you can't beat it! bytj addict, December 11, 2007
I used to bring this to work for lunch probably 3 times a week. It's by far the best out of all the frozen lunches at TJ. Not sure why they got rid of it...

I love this product too. I used to add a few veggies and it was the perfect lunch. I do hope they will bring it back.
