San Jose, CA Airport Area Confirmed - 2006/08/18 18:34
It's official: Buoyed by a city subsidy, Trader Joe's will open next year at the San Jose MarketCenter, a new shopping complex near San Jose's airport that has drawn a bevy of popular eateries and stores.
Pending city approval, construction on the 12,000-square-foot-store will start in October, with an opening slated for March, said Todd Oliver, a partner with Terranomics Retail Services, which represented MarketCenter owner Cousins Properties.
The specialty grocer was wooed to the fresh new complex at the intersection of Taylor Street and Coleman Avenue by a city subsidy approved in June by the San Jose City Council. The subsidy will enable Cousins to lease space for the Trader Joe's at a below-market rate, which over the 10 years of the lease would amount to $2.8 million.
