I love TJ's.....but - 2008/05/13 01:46 I just recently discovered TJ's and as a whole...love their food and shopping in the stores. I've had some great things from there. I can't afford to do my whole week's shopping there (I wish I could), but I do like going there for my $25's worth of stuff.

Anyway, I love the place...but my main beef with TJ's are two things.

....long check out waits. I think this is mainly because the clerks are having a "conversation" with the people. It's great to be friendly and all...but I don't need a cashier starting a forced conversation with me about a product. I know they are just doing their job, but how about ring up the person AND talk? Or bet yet, why don't they train the stockers to be more personable? I have wondered aisles there looking for stuff only to be ignored by workers. Talk to me then...not when I am trying to leave!

Also another thing that irks me are the small shopping carts for kids. You cannot navigate the small store cause all these yuppie kids are in the way and parents have no sense to tell them to stay to the side (or away from the large, tall display of wine!). Call me a scrooge..but they gotta find another way to appeal to the kids.

Re:I love TJ's.....but - 2008/05/13 17:08 Addressing your second concern not all TJ's use the kids shopping carts, so if there are any other TJ's close give them a shot.

Re:I love TJ's.....but - 2008/05/14 18:02 newtjshopper,

One of the main reason I shop at TJ's is the fast lines. If there are more than a couple of person per line, a new register opens.

Here is a secret about lines: If there are a lot of shoppers per line, stand in the one in far left. A new register will shortly open and a crew member will pull a shopper over. You can jump right in and be the second in line. :) But keep this a secret between you and me. :)

Re:I love TJ's.....but - 2008/05/17 07:56 i agree with the children shopping carts, it's a cute experience for a child but let me say i've gotten bumped and tripped not once but two seperate times inside the store, with one of the incidents resulting in my knee being hurt after falling down. the store clerks were appologetic but the parents were rude and compleatly inconsiderate. you cannot possibly have children at such a young age with those things, unless perhaps TJ's adds a little rope hook up feature to their cart to insure the child not to travel a certain amount of distance from their cart.. no??

Re:I love TJ's.....but - 2008/05/21 07:28 Maybe it was just the experience u had but at my store the crewmembers on the floor (the one's stocking) usually are the first to greet and assist people. Also we have a helmsperson that walks around just about every hour to assist customers.

As far as the children's carts--it's a catch 22. They are good b/c it makes shopping fun for the kids and allows the parents to shop with ease instead of a 3 year old crying b/c he/she is strapped down in a cart. Sure there are parents that let their kids run loose like animals and get angry if u say something about them. What I do is explain to the parents the safety issues involved with misusing the carts and all usually goes well. If the parent ignores what I'm saying, I've been known to use a firm tone to get my message across.

Re:I love TJ's.....but - 2008/05/23 23:18 Amen about the "kiddie carts" when our store is really busy, like a Saturday, or holiday, the "kiddie carts" are put away. The aisles are way to narrow for them to be out. It's also the parents responsibility to monitor, or actually be a parent to their kids. And yes we have long lines, and yes we talk to the customers. It's just that certain workers have not yet mastered the fine art of talking, ringing, and bagging. Oh, and while we don't mind bagging you groceries, it will go alot faster if the customer helps out. I've had $200, and $300 orders pile upwhile the customer simply stands, and watches. Film first,I bleed D-76.
