Trader Joe's to open store in South Charlotte!!!!!!
Just announced today by the Charlotte Observer:
EXCLUSIVE Trader Joe's is coming to Charlotte KATHLEEN PURVIS kpurvis@charlotteobserver.com Charlotte shoppers can stop asking for Trader Joe's, the California-based gourmet food chain. Trader Joe's announced Thursday that it has chosen a location for a South Charlotte store, in the Piper Glen Shopping Center on Rea Road. And that may be just the beginning. Company spokeswoman Allison Mochizuki confirmed that the chain is looking at possible locations in north Charlotte and mid-town, although she wouldn't give a time frame. The first store will open in 2007. The average Trader Joe's is 10,000 to 15,000 square feet, and Mochizuki says the Rea Road store will be within that size. Although the company does not discuss how it chooses locations and cities, the Charlotte expansion joins a fast growth pace for Trader Joe's. The company is opening a store in Atlanta, and recently confirmed a long-rumored site in Cary, outside Raleigh. Its recent expansion to the East Coast also includes stores in Manhattan's Union Square and in Washington. So what's a Trader Joe's? The food store is known both for specialty foods, with its own sauces, nuts and mixes, and its bargains in gourmet foods and wine. It's also known for an almost fanatical following among its fans. Unaffiliated Web sites such as www.traderjoefan.com and www.trackingtraderjoes.com follow the company's business movements and offer tricks like how to get the best deals at Trader Joe's.
