any low calorie TJ cookies? - 2008/06/08 19:37 Last year a TJ's opened up in my area, so I finally went over there,
spent $55 on over a dozen items, and have thus lost my TJ'virginity.

2 things surprised me about what TJ's offered;

- no low calorie TJ branded cookies at all.
they had "Joseph's" brand, but little else.

- many different Tortilla Corn chips, but little else;
basically, not a pretzel or potato chip in sight.

admittedly every TJ branded cookie was very enticing,
but loaded with fats and or sugars.
for a place with dozens of whole grain bread, pasta and cereals,
that oversight was very disappointing

Re:any low calorie TJ cookies? - 2008/06/21 17:16 TJ's carries 100 calorie pack cookies (Chocolate Grahams and Cinnamon Grahams), Mini Meringues and the Cat Cookies (Chocolate, Cinnamon and Ginger) are not bad on calories & fat for cookies.

Re:any low calorie TJ cookies? - 2008/06/26 21:16 TJ tries to carry products that have as much "healthy" ingredients as possible.

I bake at home, and it's very hard to make low calorie bake goods without weird chemical ingredients. The biggest problems is sugar, oil & flour. Whole wheat flour would make a cookie healthier, but it's not going to bring down the calorie count. Cutting out the oil is possible (substituting fruit or veg puree) but changes the texture and definitely the shelf life of a cookie. Sugars contribute ALOT to the texture, and can not be completely substituted in baking (could sometimes get away with reducing 1/4 the amount or mixing half/half with some artificial sugar). Generally, you can get away with substituting the oil OR the sugar, but doing BOTH is very difficult.

To make a good tasting, shelf stable low calorie cookie without using weird chemicals...very difficult.

TJ do have pretzels and potato chips, but some stores keep them on different shelves away from the snacks (i.e. on the shelf above the freezers).
