Viognier---A Great Summer White - 2008/07/06 00:12
Chardonnay...Chardonnay...Chardonnay...
I drink more Chardonnay than any other wine. But there are a lot of other good whites out there. Viognier is my #2 white. I love all whites, a sweet Reisling or a tart grapefruit juice, New Zealand Sav Blanc, but Viognier should be on anyones list as one of their "go to" grapes.
Trader Joes has 3 good Viogniers at very reasonable prices.
HONEY MOON VIOGNIER
$3.99 This is a very drinkable wine, I prefer it for an afternoon on the patio. It is light and floral, it will match with spicy foods, but the other Viogniers are a better choice with food.
BEARS LAIR VIOGNIER
$3.99 Another bargain, not as floral as the HM, but a better match with food. Buy a case of this and serve it at your next BBQ or save it for Thanksgiving. It will go well with your Turkey.
CASTORO VIOGNIER
$9.99 This is the best of the 3 (and its price shows it)
A great balance of dryness and sweet floral offerings. This is nice to drink alone or with food pairings.
