Re:Venturing to Joes.. Help! - 2009/09/07 02:18
I live in Camarillo, CA, but I'd think that the prices/selection are pretty consistent.
The prices are below average here, especially for staples like milk, eggs and bread.
I cook for my family, who are both on Weight Watchers and/or on the American Heart Association Diet (low sodium), and Trader Joe's has been a godsend in cooking meals!
Most of the ingredients in Weight Watcher's "Take 5" or "Best of Weight Watchers Magazine" cookbooks can be found at Trader Joe's, which is awesome. :)
One of the things I like best about Trader Joe's is their large selection of organic products. Especially their canned or packaged goods! For example, their Trader Joe's packaged microwavable Mac and Cheese is a solid serving size at 230 calories and $2.79 per 5-serving box.
Other Weight Watcher friendly products are: * Trader Joe's Organic Low Sodium Chicken Broth ($1.99) * Trader Joe's Diced & No Salt Added tomatoes, 14.5 oz can ($1.49) * Trader Joe's Mandarin Orange Chicken, frozen ($4.99) - I usually make it with some TJ's Jasmine Brown Rice, and it works out to about 450 calories per serving. It's great because the chicken makes about 4 servings worth of food. * Joe-Os cereal ($1.99). Basically, it's the same thing as Cheerios, but *way* cheaper.
Trader Joe's also has a great fruit and vegetable selection, which is *really* nice for being on Weight Watchers.
Hope that helps!
