What is Gelato? - 2006/08/01 04:54 There were some comments posted in the product review section about TJ's gelato that made me think about what exactly authentic gelato is. I love TJ's vanilla gelato but some people apparently think the texture is wrong. Should gelato be lighter than ice cream or heavier? Has anyone been to Italy and had the real thing?

Re:What is Gelato? - 2006/08/28 18:41 I went to Wikipedia, and found out this about gelato. It is traditionally made from milk(no cream), and usually has less than 35% air. I really like TJs tiramissu gelato, and the ginger alot. But I must admit that I don't think that I have ever had the real thing from a real gelato producer. I know that the tiramissu, ckocolate, and vanilla gelatos that we get on the east coast are imported from Italy. Film first,I bleed D-76.

Re:What is Gelato? - 2008/03/21 20:36 Gelato is an italian word for ice cream, we in america do not have a "standard" for gelato as we do for ice cream. ice cream must be 10% butter fat (or higher) and weight at least 4.5 lbs per gallon. gelato in america can mean anything, and it can be bad, like the TJ's stuff...... Good clean food, that's all I need.
