 Wines from Argentina and Chile have been popular with wine drinkers seeking value for years. These days, in addition to their value wines, both countries are now producing some spectacular top quality wines. We’ve tasted several reasonably priced wines and recommend that you give them a try.
 2005 Amaicha Torrontes (Argentina) - $4.99
Torrontes is the signature white wine of Argentina. The taste is similar to Viognier, with hints of peach and some citrus fruit. This wine is dry with a very firm acidity. It is definitely a food wine and would pair well with any type of seafood. Also a good match with Thai food and spicy food in general. A nice wine for a very nice price.
2006 Veramonte Chardonnay Reserva (Chile) - $8.99Attractive golden color with flavors of pineapple and a bit of banana. The vanilla and slight oak are pleasant and not overwhelming. This wine is well balanced and has just the right amount of acidity. This wine also has an elegant mouthfeel.
2006 Cono Sur Carmenere (Chile) - $7.49Carmenere is the red wine of Chile and is now grown almost exclusively in Chile. A medium bodied wine with flavors of ripe blackberry and cherry. Like many carmeneres, this wine has a chocolate aspect but very little characteristic smokiness or tobacco. The tannins are well rounded. Another great wine at a great price. Enjoy this wine with meats of all types.
 2005 Trapiche Oak Cask Malbec (Argentina) - $8.99
Malbec is the premier red wine of Argentina but is also grown in France and a few other countries. Beautiful dark ruby color and aromas of black fruit. This is a full bodied, big red. It has some oak and toast but is also well balanced. The tannins are velvety and the finish long. The wine cries out for a steak or other grilled red meats. At this price, this is a wine to stock up on. It will only get better over the next few years.
